Enable Remote Desktop Connection Remotely

Remote Desktop Protocol from one computer to another computer

There are times when there is a computer on the network that a technician needs to gain access to without being onsite. You can easily do this from another computer that you have access to by getting a remote session into the desired from another computer. What we have learned however is that not all computer have remote desktop connections enabled by default. This is how we can get around this delimma.

From the onsite computer run Regedit.

In Regedit:
File–>Connect Network Registry

In the ‘Select Computer’ dialogue make sure that the ‘Look In’ location is correct(should be your domain if applicable)type in the computer name or IP that you want to connect to then click Ok.

  1. HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server
  2. Once you’ve opened that key look for fDenyTSConnection
  3. Set it to a value of 0 <–a zero
  4. The computer will have to restart for the change to take effect.

Once you have completed these steps you should be able to gain access to the remote machine.
