Mapping a Network drive is very useful because they enable a computer to share files between other computers. Sharing files amongst users is standard business practices when multiple users collaborate on the same document or resource. This business practice also allows administrators to centralize document storage for security and backup tolerance. Setting up a mapped network drives on a windows computer is not a complex task. The steps are as follows:
- Open Windows File Explorer
- At the top of the window find and click on “Map Network Drive”
- In the box provided you will type in the path location where the files are shared. Select a letter to assign the virtual drive share. Example \\server\document; E:\Document
- Click ok to close the window.
