Open and use a shared mailbox in Outlook Web App

Shared Mailbox in Outlook Web makes it easy to access mailboxes without adding them to Outlook Desktop. There are situations when you have setup a shared mailbox in your organization. For various reasons you will want or need to open a Shared Mailbox in Outlook Web App (OWA) or in Outlook for desktop. As you may know, a shared mailbox “offers” a central email address (e.g. “accounting@mycompany.com”). This account can be used by members of a group to reply to emails from the next available member of the group. Additionally, by using a shaded mailbox the members of the group can share the same contact list and a calendar to create and share their appointments.

  1. Sign in to your account in Outlook Web App.
  2. On the Outlook Web App navigation bar, select your name. A list appears.
  3. Select Open another mailbox.
  4. Type the email address of the other mailbox that you want to open and then select Open. Or, start typing and then select Search contacts and directory to find the mailbox you want to open. Select the shared mailbox you want to open, and then select Open. Another Outlook Web App session opens in a separate window, allowing access to the other mailbox.
